Living room
At minimum, place the front legs of every main seat on the rug. For a more luxurious look, place the entire seating arrangement on it.
The right rug does more than fill a floor. It defines the room, connects the furniture, and makes the whole space feel considered.
A rug should feel generous, balanced, and connected to the furniture around it.
A generous rug visually enlarges the room. A rug that is too small can make even beautiful furniture feel disconnected.
The rug should sit beneath or touch the main furniture pieces, creating one composed arrangement instead of separate islands.
Leave a visible border of floor around the rug. In most rooms, 8-17 in creates a refined, intentional frame.
Use these starting points, then adjust for your room and furniture layout.

At minimum, place the front legs of every main seat on the rug. For a more luxurious look, place the entire seating arrangement on it.

The rug should extend beyond the table far enough that chairs stay on the rug when pulled back.

Position the rug beneath the lower two-thirds of the bed, or use runners along both sides for a lighter look.

A runner should guide the eye through the space while allowing the flooring to frame it neatly.
A few minutes with painter's tape can prevent a rug that feels too small or overwhelms the room.
This leaves approximately 1 ft of visible floor around each side. For larger rooms, 1½–2 ft can feel even more balanced.
Because every Berber Wool Rug can be woven to order, you are never limited to standard dimensions.

Handmade dimensions may vary slightly — this is a natural part of an authentic handwoven rug.
Yes. Most of our rugs are woven to order, so we can create the exact dimensions your room needs.
For most living rooms, at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs should sit on the rug. In larger rooms, placing all furniture legs on the rug creates the most unified result.
A border of approximately 8 - 17 in works in most rooms. Smaller rooms may need less, while large rooms can carry a wider border.
Slight variation is normal because every rug is measured, knotted, trimmed, and washed by hand. This subtle irregularity is part of its handmade character.
Send us your room dimensions or a photo. We will personally recommend the size and proportions that will work best.
